Robert L. Dehn

Robert “Bob” Dehn, born June 30, 1930 in Passaic, NJ, to the late Leslie & Jessie Dehn, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2020 in Venice, FL. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Bettyann” in June 2017, and daughter, Susan, in January 2020. He is survived by five children, sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Robert (wife Debra; children Robert, Kristi & Oscar; grandchildren Weston, Brody, Nyellie, & Kinslee), Debra (husband David; children Craig & Andrew), Thomas (children Karlie and Kyle), William (wife Margaret; children William, Gregory & Troy; grandchild Elizabeth), Richard (wife Mary Beth; children Kevin, Nicole & Jacquelyn) and son-in-law Jeffrey Steccato (children Jamie, Jeffrey and Thomas). He is also survived by his sister, Carol Mertes, and brother-in-law, Arthur Tracy.

Prior to Bob moving to Florida in January 2019, he and Bettyann spent 20 years in Mahwah. They continued to stay involved in Hillsdale where they had raised their family for 40 years. Bob was a second generation, of four generations, sprinkler fitter. He was a 30+ year volunteer with the Hillsdale Fire Department (1972 Fire Chief). He coached track and basketball at St. John’s, managed many baseball teams and was league president for the Hillsdale Little League. Bob is a retired Sergeant Major of the Army and veteran of the Korean War. In his retirement, he became an active member of the American Legion Post 162.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Bob’s life and faith will be held on December 28, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. John The Baptist R.C. Church, Hillsdale, NJ followed by internment at 11:30 am at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Hillsdale Fire Department, 383 Hillsdale Ave, Hillsdale, NJ 07642.
