Robert "Bob" F. Higgins, age 90, of Hillsdale, New Jersey passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025. Bob was born August 16, 1934 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, one of eight children to Paul and Helen Higgins (nee Fogarty).
Bob graduated from The University of Scranton in 1956 and then entered the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country until 1959. He began his career in sales for the Eastman Kodak Company, selling a new technology called micro-film. He was responsible for transitioning the American Express Company, based in New York City over to this new micro-film system. He was the top Micracode Sales Rep for Eastman Kodak in the United States in 1963 and 1964. He also worked the Eastman Kodak Pavillion at the 1964 World’s Fair where he was responsible for introducing this new technology to the world. In later years he held management and director positions with the State of New Jersey and Bergen County. He worked with several NJ Governors and State Senators with a focus on private industry, job training, recruiting and job placement.
Bob was very active in his local community of Hillsdale. He held positions on the School Board, Zoning Board and on other town boards.
He was a devout Roman Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church, Hillsdale, NJ.
Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy Higgins (Nee Pumilia); his son Chuck Higgins (Sheena); his brother Tom (Joan) and his sister Cathy (the late Jerry); his granddaughters Annie and Molly Higgins who were the light of his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Paul Higgins and his mother Helen Higgins (nee Fogarty); his brother Paul; his brother William; his brother Dan (the late Marianne); his sister Mary (the late Al) and his sister Betty (Nick).
A visitation for Bob will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 69 Valley Street, Hillsdale, New Jersey 07642 followed by Marine Corps military honors. A committal service will occur Monday, March 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Catherine's Cemetery, 1247 Drinker Turnpike, Covington Township, PA 18444.
