Ruth E. Watson

Ruth E. Watson (Romaglia), 69 of Oradell, NJ passed away on December 6, 2013. Born in Staten Island, NY, Ruth was raised in Teaneck, NJ and lived most of her life in Oradell. She married her husband, James Watson in 1969 and predeceased her in 1998. Mrs. Watson has spent the past 2 ½ decades fighting for the educational rights of special needs children as a parent advocate. She first worked for the non-profit Parent Information Center of NJ, based in Teaneck and then worked independently. As a parent advocate she advised parents of the legal rights their child had to a “free and appropriate Public Education” and has represented countless families in NY, NJ and DE. Because of her tireless efforts, many children received the education they were entitled to under federal law. She is survived by her sons, Matthew and Andrew Watson and her cousins Marion Silva and Ann Romaglia. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Becker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday 10am at the funeral home with the interment to follow in Mt. Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.
