He is survived by his wife Soniya (neé Varghese) Pattiyani, his wife of 21 years, and their three children, Aleena Ann Skariah (b. 2005), Amith Mathew Pattiyani (b. 2008), and Ayben Varghese Pattiyani (b. 2010).
He was born on September 13, 1975 as the youngest child of K.A. Mathew and Annamma Mathew. He was an unexpected miracle child, and the significant age gap between him and his three older siblings, Mr. Abraham Pattiyani, Mr. Thomas Pattiyani, and Mrs. Mary Roy-Sam, earned him the family nickname Kunju; little one.
He grew up in Vennikulam, Kerala, with a keen interest in engineering. He gained a diploma in electronics, electrical applications, and plumbing from the Industrial Training Institute of India, and served in the special forces unit for the President of India, before moving to the Sultanate of Oman. He worked there for five years in purchasing, during which time he got married and welcomed his first child. From there, the family moved to the United States and settled down in Congers, New York, where his two youngest children were born. He worked at The Enclave at Rye Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for 20 years, over 11 of them as the Director of Central Supply Management, a position he held until his passing. He also had a lifelong passion for building, repairing, and inventing, which he pursued through freelance work in his spare time.
Subi was a devout Catholic. In addition to Sunday, he attended mass every single Tuesday for over 25 years and prayed to his patron saint, St. Anthony. His youngest son, Ayben, was born on St. Anthony’s feast day, June 13. Subi was also very involved in his local parish – he volunteered several hours each week to maintain the church premises and coached the church’s basketball and volleyball teams.
It is with profound sadness that we announce his passing. Subi was loved by all who knew him; he had the rare ability to form deep, meaningful connections with everyone he met, always taking the time to make people feel truly seen and valued. His easygoing personality, genuine willingness to help with a smile, and unique sense of humor made him an integral part of his workplace, church, family, and community.
Please join us in praying for our dearest Subi’s soul to find peace and rest in our Father’s heavenly kingdom.
