It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Mary Gillies (née Callahan), the heart and soul of our family. She passed away peacefully at home in Park Ridge, New Jersey, surrounded by her loving family, on May 15, 2026, at the age of 74. Susan was born on December 15, 1951, to the late Raymond and Muriel Callahan.
Her greatest passion was her family, the center of her world. She was the beloved wife of Daniel Gillies; a devoted mother to Scott, Jaime, and Bryan; and she lovingly embraced Jaime Gleason, Daniel Scott, and Marisol Manalo as her own. She was a dear sister to Nancy Bohn, Patricia Burdette, Kathleen Hajjar, Kevin Callahan, Kenneth Callahan, David Callahan, and the late Sean Callahan. She was also a fun-loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews and is survived by a large and loving extended family. Susan had countless cherished friends and a special gift for making everyone feel welcome, quickly turning acquaintances into lifelong friendships.
Susan will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love, always putting others before herself. She found great joy in hosting family gatherings and treasured life’s simple moments. Her passion for the New York Mets ran deep—it was an important part of who she was, and anyone who knew Susan knew it well.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Susan’s life and faith will be held on May 23, 2026, at 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Park Ridge, New Jersey. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Park Ridge Elks Lodge #2234 immediately following the service to share memories and continue honoring her beautiful life.
In honor of Susan’s love of baseball, guests are invited to wear their favorite team apparel in her memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church or the Park Ridge Elks Lodge #2234.
To know Susan was a gift. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her, and her memory will continue to guide and comfort us always.
