Susan M. Hard

Susan Mary, 63, of Fair Lawn, NJ, formerly of Hillsdale, NJ, departed this life on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. She had dedicated her life as a mother, teacher and grandmother. Susan graduated from William Paterson College of NJ in 1972. Her teaching career began in the fall of 1972 at Westwood High School in Westwood, NJ and ended at Pascack Valley High School in Hillsdale, NJ in 1996. From 1974 to 1982 she took a respite from the classroom to raise her three daughters and tutor area children in mathematics. Susan struggled with her health but never let it interfere with being a devoted mother and wife. She shared her smile, sharp wit, and continuous support and encouragement with everyone that came in contact with her. She found time to welcome three exchange students into her home. She was recognized by President Ronald Reagan for her work with the youth of the Pascack Valley area, and was entered into the Who’s Who Teacher of the Year 1990, and the PVHS year book was dedicated to her in 1992. Devoted wife of Peter Hard; loving mother of Janine, Katie and her husband Peter, and Colleen; adoring grandmother of Kristoffer, Nikolas, and Alexander who affectionately called her “Muck”; and dear sister of Cindy, Nancy, and Richard. Susan also leaves behind countless young men and women that she taught over the years who thought of her as their second Mom. Visitation at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Sunday from 2-8PM. There will be a service at the Becker Funeral Home on Monday at 11:30AM. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. The family invites their friends to join them for a luncheon repast at the Hillsdale Fire House after the burial.
