With broken hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Thomas John Gibbons, who was taken from us far too soon on May 25, 2025, at the age of 50. He ended his hard-fought battle with cancer the only way he would have wanted - listening to his favorite music, surrounded by his family.
Tom was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished son and brother, nephew, cousin, coach and a loyal friend. Tom lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and generosity. His presence lit up every room, and his love for those around him was boundless.
Tom shared a beautiful life with his wife, Sue, his best friend, partner, and the love of his life. Together they built a home filled with love, constant laughter, and unforgettable memories. Their three beloved children, Tommy, Riley, and William, were the center of Tom’s world — and he poured his heart into every sports game, guitar show, school event, bedtime story, and quiet family moment.
To know Tom was to love him. He will always be remembered for his ability to connect with anyone who crossed his path. Anyone who knew him will remember his playful sense of humor and his passion for music, fantasy baseball and NY sports teams. We will remember his pride in his work, his dedication to the students of Xavier High School, his passion to be a man for others and desire to make a difference in this world. Above all, we will always remember the profound love he had for his family. His sudden departure leaves a void that can never truly be filled.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Gibbons; their children, Tommy, Riley and William; his parents, Thomas and Kathleen Gibbons; his siblings, Gillian Daly (Michael), Mary Ellen Guerrero (Hector), Catherine Nicholas (Mario) and Tim Gibbons; his many nieces and nephews and extended family that he cherished, countless friends and coworkers who were blessed to know him.
A visitation for Thomas will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 and Sunday, June 1, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. A funeral mass will occur Monday, June 2, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 69 Valley St, Hillsdale, NJ 07642. A funeral will occur Monday, June 2, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Westwood Cemetery, 23 Kinderkamack Rd, Westwood, NJ 07675.
In place of flowers, please consider a donation to the Gibbons Children’s Legacy Fund, which has been set up to support Tommy, Riley and William in the years ahead as Tom would have wished.
