William Charles, Sr., 83, of Township of Washington, NJ on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Beloved husband of Dolly Gallagher. Devoted father of Billy Gallagher and his partner Eileen Kostoglian, Kathleen Gallagher Dunican and her husband John, Jeanmarie Gallagher, Robert Gallagher, Theresa Gallagher Giuca and her husband Darren, Thomas Gallagher and his wife Irma. Loving grandfather of Evan, Brian, Emily and Liam. Dear brother of Jean Rooney and the late Maryann O'Connell. William was a Sergeant and Neighborhood Police Chief with the NYPD for over 31 years. He was a Security Manager with Solomon Brothers for 10 years, as well as a member of The Metal Lathers Union for 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1000. He loved to travel , was an ardent reader and enjoyed his passion for horses and throughbred racing. He also served in the US Army during the Korean War. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Township of Washington, NJ on Wednesday at 10 AM. Interment at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. The family will receive thir friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. His family will cherish his quick Irish wit.
