Angeline “Angie” Flanigan passed with her family lovingly by her side on Friday, December 6th, 2019 just two weeks after reaching her 92nd birthday. She was the wife of the late James Flanigan. Born November 20, 1927 to Anthony and Catherine Pope, Angie was one of six children. She was a proud employee of Kresge’s department store in Hartford—with a register always balanced down to the penny—where she met her husband Jim Flanigan of 66 years. After raising her children, she brought her spunk and no-nonsense attitude to Otis Elevator for more than 20 years where she developed many life-long memories, stories and friendships.
Once Angie had kids, she dedicated her time to taking care of them, and eventually her grandchildren and great grandchildren. At every stage throughout her life she loved being surrounded by her family. When she wasn’t picking up kids or grandkids from school with Jim and sneaking chocolate to them from her chocolate stashes around the house, she was making a morning cake or Sunday macaroni and meatballs for the whole family. When she wasn’t planning a trip to Disney World for the whole family, she was packing and preparing for everyone to head down to the beach house in Old Saybrook together.
Angie was a kid at heart, with an immense amount of strength and determination which she showed until the very end. She leaves behind a legacy of a close, loving family, with strong individuals who share an undeniable sweet tooth.
She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Susan and Michael Pirro of Simsbury, Maureen and Dennis Sweeney of Wethersfield and Karen and Bob Colangelo of Wethersfield; eight granddaughters: Kim Robinson and her husband Ben and their children Andrea and Lisa of Wethersfield; Elizabeth Peling and her husband Rob and their children Kevin, Amy and Brendan of Wethersfield; Jennifer Pirro and her husband Mike Mulhall and their children Anthony and Abigail of Canton; Allison Sweeney of Rocky Hill; Rosanne Gowdy and her husband Mike and their sons Marcus and James of Wethersfield; Helen Nye and her husband Jonathan of Wethersfield; Julie Colangelo and her fiancé Tom Ward of New Haven; and Lindsey Colangelo of Brooklyn, NY. She also leaves behind two sisters, Rose Aiello and Helen Tomaino and many other family and friends. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Josephine Livingston and her brothers, Salvatore and Carmen Pope.
Funeral services will leave on Tuesday, December 10th at 8:45 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capitol Avenue, Hartford.
