Antonietta (d’Aloisio) Speranza, 93, of West Hartford and formerly Hartford, beloved wife of the late Antonio Speranza, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 5, 2019.
Born in Pianella, province of Pescara, Italy on March 26, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Grazia (Pierdomenica) d’Aloisio. While living in Italy, she was known as the “Town Caterer.” After coming to the United States, Antonietta worked as a seamstress for Greca Brothers and then as a dietary aide at Hartford Hospital. Antonietta enjoyed bowling with her friends and was a member of the Women’s Bowling Club of Newington for many years. Because of her passion for cooking and entertaining, she was affectionately referred to by everyone as the “Italian Martha Stewart.” She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and always took care of her neighbors and anyone in need. Most importantly, as her family was paramount to her, she enjoyed elaborate Sunday dinners for all to gather together.
She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be forever missed by her four children, Antonio “John” Speranza and wife Natalina of West Hartford, Rita Speranza of Jacksonville, FL, Linda Speranza and significant other Paul Keily of West Hartford and Sonya Abbruzese and husband Joseph of Parker, TX; ten adored grandchildren, Alyssa, Bianca, AJ, Jonathan and wife Aubrey, Jessica and husband Wes, Lindsey and husband Will, Nico and fiancée Jessenia, Tressa, David and wife Taylor and Deanna and nine cherished great-grandchildren, Angelina, Violet, Lyla, Olivia, Gabriel, Evie, Anthony, Joey and Mia. She is also survived by her brother, Alberto d’Aloisio and his wife Amelia of Pianella, Italy; two sisters, Maria Speranza of Wethersfield and Mirella Aceto and husband Gino of Chieti, Italy, as well as many dear nieces, nephews and extended family members, both in the U.S. and Italy. She was predeceased by two brothers, Vincenzo and Gulio d’Aloisio and her sister, Lucia Di Girolamo. Special thanks to Nunu Acevedo, her loving caregiver of 5 years and to all the loving nurses and aides of Masonicare.
