Alan Lawrence King

Alan was born on March 8, 1942, in Springfield, MA, the son of the late Albert and Phyllis (Riley) King. He attended Babson College in Boston, and from there built a long and successful career in the insurance industry, retiring from Great American Insurance after many years.

Alan was an avid reader who enjoyed bike riding and, especially, golfing. He never missed a chance to get out on the course and spend the day with a few friends. One of Alan's favorite weekly traditions was the standing Saturday night dinner date he and Judy shared with their best friends, Steve and Joyce Piecewicz. He also loved talking with people, whether he knew them or not, and had an infectious sense of humor. He was a longtime member and officer of the Elks Lodge #2308 in Rocky Hill, CT.

Most importantly, Alan was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the most important part of his life, and he was always there supporting them in whatever they were involved in. He took such pride in attending his grandchildren's dance recitals and competitions, and their softball, basketball, football, and soccer games. There was no prouder grandfather!

In addition to Judy, his wife of 59 years, Alan will be deeply missed by his son James "Jamie" King, son-in-law Michael Connors, and his cherished grandchildren, Makenzie Connors, Kiley Connors, and Carlito Estela-King. He also leaves his beloved sister Meredith King, sisters-in-law Joanne Ritson and Margaret Koch, and Ann Marie Gagliardi, who was like a daughter to him. And he leaves behind his favorite four-legged pup, Macy.

In addition to his parents, Alan was predeceased by his daughter Drieu-Ann Connors, his daughter-in-law Bonnie King, his sister Judith Lawrence, his sister-in-law Elizabeth Holden, and his brother-in-law James Ritson.

A celebration of Alan's life will be held privately.
