

Anna Maria 'Nina' Italia (Rossi) Piccolo, 89, of Wethersfield, beloved wife for 57 years of the late Salvatore Piccolo, died Monday (February 22, 2010) in Hartford Hospital. Nina was born on June 9, 1920 in Guardia Perticara, Province of Potenza, Italy, the daughter of the late Marietta (Scotellaro) and Emilio Rossi. Nina came to the United States in 1927 settling with her parents in Brooklyn, NY for some years before moving with her family to Hartford, Connecticut. Nina was married to her husband, Salvatore on April 19, 1952. As a young woman Nina worked as a seamstress and later held a clerical position for the Travelers Insurance Company for many years before she retired. Nina had many interests including fashion design and dressmaking, embroidery, drawing, reading mystery novels, baking cakes and cookies, watching TV quiz shows, window shopping and spending time with her beloved family. Throughout her life, Nina had a deep appreciation for fashion, beautiful clothing and fine fabrics as well as an inimitable style that was ever cheerful, friendly and loving. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Nina is survived by her three devoted daughters, Emma M. Russell and her husband, James, of East Sandwich, MA, Mary S. Campbell and her husband, David, of Lancaster, MA, and Rita R. Conklin and her husband, Brian, of Montville; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Katherine Russell, and Alexandra Campbell; her step-granddaughter, Roxanne (Conklin) Armbruster; step-great-grandchildren, Emma, Noah and Addison; her brothers, Louis Rossi and Anthony Rossi and his wife, Rose, all of Wethersfield; her sisters-in-law, Maria Antoinette Piccolo, Giuseppina Crocitti and Theresa Piccolo; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and in Italy. Nina was predeceased by her beloved husband, Salvatore, who died a mere 12 days earlier on February 10, 2010. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 27 beginning at 10:30 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will be at the Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. (prior to leaving for the Mass) at the funeral chapel in Wethersfield.
