Tony was my next door neighbor  growing up in Peter's Hall , we were like family and spent a lot of time together. My brothers ( Wilbert Selochan  and Gilbert Selochan) were inseperable  . Tony was always kind , caring and funny and   will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. My Mom ( Olga Selochan ) and Tony shared the same birthday and she always remembered his birthday.

It was an honor for us to attend his wedding to Savitiri, my Mom was so proud  and happy to be a part of  his special day. RIP Tony , you will have the biggest welcome home in Heaven . My condolences to Savitri , Natalie and the extended family.

My Uncle Tony... 

You are the first boy of the Appiah siblings. You made my mom a big sister. You are her first best friend. 

My mom’s due date when pregnant with me was supposed to be Christmas. If you know my mom, there was no way she would be in the hospital for Christmas. She made sure to tell her doctors to get me out on the 19th as she has a brother born on the 18th of December. That was you Uncle Tony. From that day forward, you never forgot to give me a call wishing me happy birthday. You are and will forever be my birthday buddy. I will miss hearing your voice. I will constantly play the voice mail you left me from last year’s birthday just to hear your voice one last time. 

December 3rd was a hard day for us in 2012, when grandma passed away. Now, it will be even harder since that’s the day you left us here. 

Uncle Tony, we all love you so much.

Tony I never ever thought I would be doing this! I am sorry that we drifted apart after we moved to this country. U were my younger brother who I took under my wings as we rode to school every day!  Well your Dad asked  and I listened, we practiced Karate together almost every day, we even sparred against each other during classes and once had a real fight which u started and left me to get beat up. Nevertheless u were always there for me sometimes giving me food through the Fence. To the best God Brother in the world I hope we meet together one day again. God Bless you and your lovely family! Thursday my Uncle Anthony Appiah joined his mother Josephine, his father Stephen, his sister Aloysia, and his brother Alexander in the beautiful hereafter. I will miss him and his amazing passion in everything he did. I pray for my beautiful cousin Natalie Appiah and her Mom Aunty Savitri. I also pray for all of our family for God's grace through this trying time. Below is my tribute to him :
60 years young and it was time for you to go. It was sudden and unexpected. And to make matters worse, your birthday is coming up only a few days after you left us. You always encouraged me to be me when most people didn’t understand. I still can hear your booming laughter and voice. I am terrible at keeping touch and once in a while you would call me to check up on me and talk. I’ve always appreciated and loved that. Through your passing you have taught us the most precious resource we have is time. We have vowed to never drift apart again. You truly were one of a kind and we will miss you terribly but rest assured the times we shared and lessons you taught will never be forgotten. Godspeed. I love you.

We are so sorry for your loss. I remember meeting your family in the early 90's. Tony was sweetheart. I remembered when he use to work at Stop and Shop and every time we see each other he would always stop and talked to us. Even though we haven't seen each other in a while, he surely left a great impression on us.
 May his soul Rest In Peace. May God give you the strength to go through this most difficult time.

Words cannot express how We felt when we heard about Tony. He was one of the most generous person I have ever met. He was always lending a hand to others and reaching out when they were in need. Tony was an extremely caring and kind friend and I know that no matter where you and Natalie are, he will always be watching over you guys. I remember the first time I met Tony and his everlasting personality - a genuine, honest, caring, the most intellectual and logical person I know . I could always count on him to lighten the mood with a good joke. There will never be another friend quite like him and his memories will live on forever. Let the memories of Tony provide you and Natalie with comfort and serve as guidance. He will definitely be missed.

Tony, your passing has come as such a shock to me. A reminder from God that we are all so fragile; even the strongest among us could not resist Death's call.

You join my beautiful late sister Josephine on the day of her death anniversary; which is both sad and beautiful at the same time. 

I am lonelier for your passing as you always found the time to call me. You, like your Dad, never forgot a birthday or an anniversary. You never failed to check in to ask if I was ok on important holidays.  

Your Love for your Uncle Lionel was also something that I will never forget. You always included him and visited him whenever you could. You didn't mind bunking out on the couch at our apartment in New York, just so you can spend time with him. He loved you so much for that.

Tony, Tony, Tony gone but would never be forgotten. I would always be reminded of times when we disagree to agree with cricket, dominoes and lots of other topics. Dearest Cousin Tony,
I am Diana, the daughter of Tony’s only surviving aunt from his dad’s side, his Aunt Celeste age 90 years, residing in Queens NY.  Tony I want you to know that upon breaking this news to your Aunt Celeste, she weeped and said “I WISH GOD TOOK ME INSTEAD!” She would have gladly traded places with you. She became extremely sad and immediately said her rosary for you. 
Unfortunately, my memory of you is rather vague because I was in my childhood years back in Guyana. The last time I saw you, after so many years, was at our Aunt Winnie’s funeral and I was so thrilled because it felt like I was looking at your father my dearest Uncle Stephen. I had the immeasurable pleasure of meeting your adorable daughter Natalie and loving wife Savitrie. You were so witty and jovial and I cherished being able to reconnect with you.  We last chatted on Thanksgiving and now you’ve left me speechless by your passing. Rest In Peace dear cousin. 
You will always be remembered in our hearts 💔.  Gone too soon.

PART II

I recall dominoes, cricket at the house which was filled with arguments and usually ended with a big jug of lemonade. There were so many of the friends who came over to share their Sunday at our home at Republic Park.
Tony was especially proud to have his pals over to hang out and have Saturday night parties.
Anthony had his very own special tailor who he kept rather busy. He was forever saving up to purchase special materials to create in a sketch, and have Pepsi execute the design of custom-made Jeans and dress pants. My brother loved a grand style and he never changed in that approach throughout his life, which I can bet, everyone who knew him well can attest. 
My beloved niece Natalie, Dad was proud of you especially. You are his shining star and he will always be looking over you. Protecting you and interceding on your behalf.
My Sister Savitri, you are a loving and caring woman. Your endurance and hard work as a mother and a wife were appreciated very much by Tony. 
The entire Appiah family embraces you and prays that God may bless you and keep you; may the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you, may he lift you up, and give you peace. (Num 6:24-26)

Tony was truly a humble, down to earth and  fun loving angel. He would always make us laugh even during the toughest times we were in.  With a serious face he would tell a joke and you could not help but laugh.  Tony you will be missed more than you can imagine.  The good lord needed another angel.   You and your family will also be so dear to us.

PART I
My Dearest Natalie and Savitri,
Thursday, December 3rd will always be a date of reverence for the Appiah family. It was eight years ago that on this date, we lost mom, the gentle Josephine R Appiah. This was not an easy loss and affected all of us in many ways. Tony was her eldest brilliant boy and it is fitting,  that he should join her on this day.
Our late father Stephen P. Appiah was proud of all his children but was especially proud of his son Anthony Stephen Appiah. I would always marvel at the two, sparring with word usage that is reserved only for the elites of the English Language. Tony continued with that trend and was the voice of our dad at speeches, forever using words that we must all store away to later lookup in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Our family lost Aloysia Amrit in 1984 suddenly at age 21; that was a tremendous shock and shook all of us, but especially mom to the core for many years thereafter. (She is in this Picture)
Our sudden loss of our brother in law Jack Rambarran in 2005, dealt another hard blow that to this day is not easy to overcome.
Together we mourned the passing of our brother Alexander Appiah, just over 2 years ago. He too was, too young.
Whilst we have had these losses; there is much joy in recalling the memories left by Tony.
I recall his interest in my studies as I too attended St Stanislaus College. (I believe he was afraid I would tarnish his good name at the College .. LOL)


Dearest Tony,

The suddenness of your departure leaves me without the right words that could ever describe you and what you mean to me.

You are a loyal brother and defender. I remember us in the 70s, going to school at Central High and St. Stanislaus. Having our porridge in the morning and riding off to Georgetown in the heat of the Guyana sun.

Our young adult years with your pals Dennis, Billy, Robin, Philbert and Whilbert and Tony Mansell. Our Family get-togethers with family and friends, uncle Neville and aunt Ellen, aunt Elsa and uncle Stewart.

Your fast sense of humour and wit were a great delight. You were a great brother and I would not trade you for anything or anyone else in the world.

Thanks for being who you were. I will miss our long telephone conversations. 

My heart goes out to my sister in law Savitrie and my niece Natalie who lost so much in losing you. May God grant them the grace and blessing in this time of grief.

I will miss you so very much.

I am the cousin of Anthony residing in Orlando Florida .  My dad and his mom are siblings .  I remember the times as a young girl he made me laugh, he was always so full of fun and laughter and can light  up any room he walks into.

On behalf of my family I would like to send condolences to his wife and daughter.

Rest In Peace dear cousin.  Gone too soon  but not forgotten .

I wish at Aunt Winifred’s funeral, we had spent more time chatting. But at least I am at peace in knowing that I expressed to you my dismay at the disconnect within the family.

Life comes at us fast, time waits for no one and what one should and could be done today should not be put aside, for who knows what tomorrow will bring or if there will be a tomorrow for some of us.

There was a time growing up when I saw a lot of you when mum and dad visited your home and when you visited us. While we were not close as kin growing up, I do remember the competitiveness in you. You, for a lot of us was the cool cousin, the sharp dresser, intelligent and supposedly a fly guy 🤓

We shared then the commonality of being avid readers. You raided many books from us and I did the same when I visited. I am sure along the way some of them were never returned but that was the love we had for books. I remember seeing you lifting weights and asked to train with you. I was skinny but you said I was strong and would you know it, I still train.

I was in the field doing research related to Ornithology when I got a text message from my sister, Diane. I realized then that I had missed several calls. Given mum’s age, I always get nervous whenever I get a call or text from my sister.

I was not prepared for this. When I learned of your death. I felt deflated, gutted, crushed. It felt like I was being trolled. 2020 has been that type of year where it seems everything that could go wrong has gone wrong.  I am saddened that we did not have a chance to reminisce on childhood memories, play Chess, or perhaps rekindle that family bond that once existed. Immigration, family dustups, hubris has taken its toll.

Wherever you are in the afterlife, may you find peace. I will include you in my thoughts as I always do for all the departed souls that have been a part of my life. My heartfelt condolences to your family and all affected by your sudden loss.

My dear brother Tony. You are the smartest person I know. You knew how to make us laugh. Your sense of humour was exceptional.

You were a great big brother, full of fun and stories. I remember in the 80's when we all endured the Burnham blackout days; sharing family stories and games. 

I remember you as a lover of exotic birds and a collector of Stamps. 

The last time we spoke, you heard the sound of German Shepherds and wanted to hear them barking. Tonight I can hear them barking and I am thinking of you.

Writing on behalf of Tony’s surviving Aunt, Celestine (Appiah) Bacchus, of 90 years old. “I don’t remember too much, my age...but I do remember Tony coming to the house at Eccles in Guyana and picking as many Guavas as he could. When I visited his Dad and Mom, he and his siblings would always ask if I brought them fruits, mostly Guavas and Mangoes. He also borrowed a lot of books from us, from brother Bacchus.”
