Anthony “Tony” Peluso, 79, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at UConn Health Center on April 2, 2014. He was born in Hartford on June 18, 1934, to Josephine (Perrone) and Carmine Peluso. Tony served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Panama in the 1950s. He married Norma Sorrentino in 1958 and together they had two daughters, Joanne and Laura. When Norma passed away in 1964, Tony faced the challenge of raising two girls on his own the way he faced all challenges, with bravery and integrity. In 1970, he married Nancy Lombardi, with whom he enjoyed nearly 44 years of marriage. Tony was employed by Amtrak for over 30 years, happily retiring in 1996 in order to devote himself to his favorite interests: gardening, fishing, dogs, Maine vacations, the New York Yankees, cribbage, cooking and especially his family. Tony's storytelling, generosity, and sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves his wife, Nancy (Lombardi) Peluso; his daughters, Joanne Peluso of West Hartford and Laura Hayes and her husband, Dan of Middlefield and his beloved grandchildren, who were the joys of his life, Laurie N. Spieker of Los Angeles and Andrew J. Spieker of Seattle. Laurie inherited her ""Papa's"" passion for mischief while Andrew became his cribbage opponent and now steps into the role of ""cribmaster."" Tony also leaves his sister, Josephine Witkowsky of Hartford; his sister-in-law, Patricia Peluso of Hartford; and brother-in-law, Anthony Campanelli of Windsor Locks; many nieces and nephews and his loyal dog, Gracie. He was predeceased by his wife, Norma; his sisters, Michelina and brother-in-law Robert DeGray; Rose Campanelli; Christine and brother-in-law Joseph Deming; his brothers, Michael Peluso and sister-in-law Lena; and John Peluso; and brother-in-law, William Witkowsky. In accordance with Tony's wishes, funeral services and burial will be private and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Mary's Place, 6 Poquonock Ave., Windsor, CT 06095. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield is assisting the family. For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.desopo.com. Buona sera Papa, ci vediamo domani.
