

Anthony Joseph Pizzoferrato, 67, of Orange City, FL, formerly of Newington, beloved husband of Ann (Christensen) Pizzoferrato, passed away on June 19, 2018, after a brief illness. Anthony was born in Hartford on May 22, 1951 and was the son of the late Vincenzo and Maddalena (Tedeschi) Pizzoferrato. Growing up he cared for his younger brothers and proudly helped provide for the family. Anthony owned and operated a formal wear shoppe on Franklin Avenue in Hartford for many years. During his career, he managed many retail businesses. Anthony was truly a man of strong faith, he was a ranking member of the Boys Brigade of St. Justin’s Church in Hartford, song leader at St. Mary’s Church Sunday mass for 15 years and was the founding member of the Christian Single’s group of St. Mary’s in Newington where he met his wife. He also was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Edward’s Church in Florida. For many years Anthony proudly served on the Newington Board of Education, was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, and was once named Outstanding Young Man of America by the Jaycees civic organization. He also loved to watch his daughter Teresa in action as a teacher and he happily volunteered in her classroom. Anthony was a charismatic and gentle man, a good friend to all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of 38 years, Anthony is survived by his daughter Teresa Pizzoferrato of Orange City, FL, his brothers Victor Pizzoferrato of Hartford and Vincent Pizzoferrato and his wife Sue of Newington, two nieces, Heather and Becky and a nephew, Brian, all of Newington as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother James Pizzoferrato and baby sister Mary Ellen Pizzoferrato and several other aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church, 626 Willard Avenue, Newington. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4-7pm at D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
