

Antonina (Cannistraro) Finocchiaro, 93, of Hartford, beloved wife for almost 50 years of the late Giuseppe Finocchiaro, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Born in Floridia, province of Siracusa, Sicily on June 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Sebastiano and Giuseppa (Quartarone) Cannistraro. Antonina came to the U.S. in 1968. She was a dedicated worker at American Linen until her retirement. Antonina was an avid crocheter, making blankets for each of her family members. She will also be forever remembered for her delicious arancini.
More than anything, Antonina loved spending time with her family. She will be forever missed by her daughter, Pinuccia “Pina” Scionti and husband Giuseppe “Joe” of Wethersfield; three sons, Salvatore Finocchiaro and wife Patricia “Patty” of Glastonbury, Sebastian “Sebby” Finochhiaro and wife Luz of Port Charlotte, FL and Santo Finocchiaro and wife Donna of Marlborough; 14 cherished grandchildren; 25 adored great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Giuseppa “Pippa”Cannistraro of Sicily and Concetta Cannistraro of Germany, as well as many dear nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her husband and parents, Antonina was sadly predeceased by her beloved infant son, Salvatore Finocchiaro; two loving daughters, Michela “Chilina” Scalora and Carmela Steele; four brothers, Carmelo, Sebastiano, Antonino and Salvatore Cannistraro and her sister, Sebastiana Finocchiaro.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, June 28 at 9:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Avenue, Hartford. Entombment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Throughout her life, Antonina was often found feeding stray animals. She was predeceased by her beloved cat, Pippo, just a few weeks prior to her passing.
