Antonino “Nino” L. Bascetta, 92, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 63 years of Ann J. (Romano) Bascetta, peacefully journeyed home with his entire family by his side on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Born in Floridia, province of Siracusa, Sicily on May 24, 1934, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Biaggia (Urso) Bascetta. Nino was an extremely talented tailor, starting his trade at age 14. He tailored for former governors, Sergio Franki, the Hartford Police Department and other well-known individuals, especially while he worked at Cripp’s Men’s Clothing in Hartford and Manchester. He also worked at Levison’s Men’s Clothing before opening his own shop, Paul & Nino Tailoring (later Nino Tailoring) on New Britain Avenue and Maple Avenue in Hartford. Nino was a founding member of the Floridian Society in Hartford and later in Rocky Hill, where he was on the Board of Directors. He was an avid gardener of roses, fig and lemon trees and many vegetables. He loved playing poker, traveling and taking cruises with his family. Nino was a former soccer player who loved watching his favorite team in the Italian Professional League, Juventus FC. He was a longtime, faithful communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Wethersfield. More than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family.
In addition to his loving wife Ann, Nino will be forever missed by his three children, Thomas “Tom” Bascetta, Donna Berry and Daniella Symolon and husband Ronald, all of Wethersfield and his five adored grandchildren, Alexandra Berry of Vernon, Anthony Berry of Singapore, Sabrina Berry of New Britain and Gianna and Sofia Symolon, both of Wethersfield. He is also survived by his sister, Anna Salerno and husband Mario of Sicily; two sisters-in-law, Paula Romano and husband Michael Adams, and JoAnn Formica, all of Wethersfield, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, former customers and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Orazio Romano and Richard Formica and his sister-in-law, Linda Romano.
