Assunta Vignone, 97, of East Hartford, beloved wife for over 57 years of the late John Vignone, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 19, 2018. Born in Sepino, province of Campobasso, Italy on April 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Maria Giuseppa Vignone. She met and married her husband in Italy and they came to America in 1954 to raise their family. Assunta was a former member of the St. Anthony Society. She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for family and friends to enjoy. Assunta was an amazing cook and loved making big family dinners filled with traditional Italian dishes, like homemade pastas and breads.
She was the matriarch of her family and will be forever missed by her three sons, Angelo Vignone and wife Maria of Rocky Hill, Luigi Vignone and wife Janet of East Hartford, with whom she made her home, and Mario Vignone and wife Angela of South Windsor; seven adored grandchildren, Marie Matiatos and husband Steve, Susie Dinnie and husband Justin, John Vignone and wife Regina, Elizabeth Tirado and husband Jimmy, Robert Vignone, Jennifer Vignone and Mariela Salinas and husband Manny and 10 cherished great-grandchildren, Christina, Sadie, Anthony, Nicholas, Angelo, Jessalyn, Rocco, Lucas, Sofia and Simon, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Michela, Laura and Lisetta. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Apple Rehab in Rocky Hill for their care, kindness and compassion shown to Assunta during her stay.
Funeral service will leave Monday (October 22) at 9:15 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave., Hartford. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
