Brigida “Bicia” (LaRosa) Buccheri, 87, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Santo Buccheri, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2026. Bicia was born September 3, 1939, in Canicattini Bagni, Sicily, Italy, daughter of the late Paolo Larosa and Concettina (Raccioppo) LaRosa. She leaves behind a sister, Paolina Larosa and two brothers, Vincenzo and Salvatore Larosa, all of Canicattini Bagni, Sicily, as well as many nieces and nephews .
Bicia’s life was defined by family, sacrifice, hard work and an appreciation for the simple things in life. In 1957, her husband Santo left Sicily alone for America in pursuit of the American dream. He worked to establish himself, finding a job and preparing a home for the family they hoped to build together. Bicia remained in Sicily, where their first daughter, Lucy, was born.
In 1959, when Lucy was just six months old, Bicia packed her belongings, took her infant daughter in her arms and left the only home she had ever known to join Santo in America. Together, they began a new life and built their family from the ground up. Through years of hard work and sacrifice, they created the opportunities for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that they had dreamed of when they first left Sicily.
Despite everything they built, Bicia never needed much to be happy. She found joy in the simple things: being at home, being surrounded by family and preparing the traditional foods she had learned to make in Sicily. She was a wonderful cook who especially loved cooking for her grandchildren. Homemade pasta, olives and traditional Sicilian dishes were a familiar part of life in Bicia’s home. For Bicia, food was more than something placed on the table—it was one of the ways she showed her love and kept the traditions of her homeland alive for the generations that followed her.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Bicia will be forever missed by her four children, Lucy Capasso and husband Mario of Wethersfield, Tina Capasso and husband Pino of South Glastonbury, Sebby Buccheri and wife Maryann of West Hartford, and Paul Buccheri of Wethersfield. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Christine, Melissa, Tony, Stephanie, Jessica, Brianna, Sebby Jr., Vanessa, Santo, Makayla and Paulie.
Bicia leaves 17 beloved great-grandchildren, with another on the way. She is also survived by many dear friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Prayer Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral chapel, followed by burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
