Carl F. Dobler, Jr., of Rocky Hill passed away on September 25, 2026, at the age of 95. He was born on September 12, 1931, in Hartford, to the late Carl F. Dobler and Margaret Claire (Godfrey) Dobler. He attended elementary school in Hartford and graduated Wethersfield High School in 1949. While at Wethersfield, he was Vice President of his Senior Class and lettered in three sports. Carl and his teammates were elected to the Wethersfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame as members of the 1948 State High School Soccer Championship team. They were the first in many subsequent soccer championships.
Carl earned a B.A. Degree from Providence College and attended the University of Connecticut School of Law. His studies were interrupted by the Korean Conflict during which time he served with the U.S. Army 115th Detachment, Counter Intelligence Corps. He later continued his law education at Georgetown Law Center. Service in a civilian capacity with the Office of Naval Intelligence followed in his public law enforcement path. It concluded with several years as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
During that time, he met the love of his life, wife and companion of 57 years, June Phyllis Pierce. His assignments took them to offices in Maryland, California, Puerto Rico and New York. Carl left the Bureau in 1968 to accept a position in the private sector with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as Manager of its proprietary Security and Fire Department Operations at East Hartford, Middletown, North Haven and Southington plants. It allowed Carl and his family to return to Connecticut and settle in Old Wethersfield. Carl continued at Pratt & Whitney until 1990 when he moved over to the Corporate Office as Manager of Security Programs for United Technologies.
Shortly after retiring in 1992, Carl suffered from cardiac impairment and had successful heart surgery. Not ready to accept the sedentary lifestyle of retirement, Carl chose to continue the challenge in a diversified field – journalism. He accepted a position as Editorial Assistant in the Features Department of the Hartford Courant. During the next 19 years Carl and June traveled extensively throughout Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, the Caribbean and the U.S. Carl retired from the Courant in 2012 at the age of 80.
Carl had been a member of the Wethersfield Country Club for many years and was past president of the Green at Maple Home Owners Association.
In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by his wife June Phyllis Dobler, his sister Mary Claire Brassill and his grandson Karl Pierce Dobler.
Survivors include Mark Stephen Dobler and wife Angela, of Dripping Springs, TX, Michael Kevin Dobler and wife Kerry of South Windsor, Richard Jon Dobler and wife Susan of Hendersonville, NC.
