Carolyn (Kilray) Bedula, 95, of Wethersfield passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 13, 2026. She was married to the late Stephen “Steve” Bedula for 66 years. Born April 20,1931 to the late Edwin and Madeline Kilray, Carolyn grew up in Hartford and graduated from Bulkeley High School before moving to Wethersfield. She was a survivor of the Hartford Circus Fire of July 1944.
After attending Hartford Secretarial School, Carolyn enjoyed working for many years at the Hartford Board of Education, Wethersfield Board of Education, Wethersfield High School, and the Department of Orthopedics at Hartford Hospital. She was an active member of the Wethersfield Garden Club, the Corpus Christi Parish Council, and the Wethersfield Historical Society. Carolyn enjoyed working on creative projects and traveled whenever she had the chance, including trips to Austria, Ireland, Bermuda and the Galapagos Islands. She also spent many happy summers at Pine Acres, playing tennis and attending her children’s swim meets and tennis matches. Continuing their love of the beach that began after meeting at Sound View in 1950, Steve and Carolyn purchased a cottage at Point O' Woods and were active members of that beach community for 20 years, where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends.
Carolyn’s greatest legacy is as the loving matriarch of her family. She was happiest when surrounded by loved ones at the dining table, laughing and sharing a multi-course meal she had spent the day cooking. Nothing was more important to her than family. She is survived by her children, Greg Bedula of Wethersfield, Alison Bedula (William Bradley) of New Canaan, CT; and Jane Bedula of Basking Ridge, NJ, as well as her brother, John Kilray and beloved family member, Kathy Kelly. She was the proud “Grandma” of nine grandchildren: Colleen Shelgren (Marc); Karen Rooney (Troy); Lauren Bedula (Pete Baltazar); John Bedula (Rachel); Elizabeth Bradley; Andrew Bradley (Devan); Graham Bradley (Lauren); and Brian and Evan Crociata. She was also the great-grandmother of seven with four more on the way. In addition to her husband, Carolyn was predeceased by her son, Jonathan and her brother, Ted. Carolyn's family is grateful to Blossom Gschlossl and Donna Richards for their kindness and dedication to her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27th at 12 noon at Corpus Christi Church of Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield.
