Charlotte Shipman Lecrenier, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of Albert Lecrenier, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at age 98. She was born on December 3, 1924 in Stewartsville, NJ in the same house where her mother and grandfather were born. She frequently referred to the homestead as the “Big House.” Her parents were the late Charles and Margaret (Thompson) Shipman, who moved to Connecticut in 1939, where she met her future husband. Charlotte graduated from the Teachers College of CT (now CCSU) and taught second grade and kindergarten in West Hartford for eight years before leaving to raise her family. She was a longtime, active member of First Church in Wethersfield and a founding member of the Bud & Blossom Garden Club.
In addition to her devoted husband Albert, with whom she just celebrated 75 years of marriage in September, Charlotte will be forever missed by her two sons, Reed of East Haddam and Venice, FL and Robert of Wethersfield. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Shipman of Aiken, SC, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, William Shipman.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, December 20 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. concluding with a Funeral Service at 12 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlotte’s memory may be made to First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
