

Christopher Joseph Ficara, 14, of East Hartland, slipped into eternity Saturday (January 22, 2011) at his home in East Hartland. Born in Hartford, he was the son of Salvin Ficara of Glastonbury and the late Mary Catherine (Brown) Ficara. Besides his father he is survived by his step-mother, Diane Ficara, his maternal grandfather, George S. Brown, Sr. of Baltimore, his aunt, Joan Woytowitz of Baltimore, his uncle, George S. Brown, Jr. of Boca Raton, FL, his cousins Matthew Cline of New York City and Bonnie Cline of Baltimore, his long-time devoted and gifted caregivers and surrogate parents, Peter and Winnie Stred with whom he made his home, his brothers and sister, Zachary Stred, Warren Stred and Emily Kamau and her husband Salim, his nephew Salim Kamau, Peter and Jenn Stred and nephew Tate Turner, Chuck Morrison and many friends and acquaintances. The family would like to acknowledge his wonderful classmates at the Hartland Elementary School and his beloved teachers, Rob Atkinson and Darlene ""Pooche"" Montgomery. A memorial service will be held Thursday (January 27, 2011) at 2 p.m. at the Glastonbury Community Church, 113 Stancliff Road, Glastonbury, CT 06033. Burial will be private in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. There are no calling hours.
