
Claire (Stenner) Matteson Agee passed away on Wednesday, (April 20, 2011). She was born in Hartford and lived in the Hartford area all of her life. She taught elementary school in Hartford and Wethersfield. Because of her love of teaching she tutored after her retirement successively at Literacy Volunteers, Read to Succeed, and Jubilee House. She also taught a Bible class for 13 years. She was an active member of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield serving on many committees and as deacon. She was a member of the Caring Ministry from its start in 1982 to the present. She delighted in her family and is survived by her daughter, Jan Sagan and her husband, Rick; sons Donn Matteson and his wife, Janet and Gary Matteson and his wife, Sabrina; her stepson, Fred Agee III; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Slater and her husband Howard; Amy Bishop and her husband, Brian; Peter, Tyler and his wife, Sarah, Myles, Tucker Matteson, Ryan Sagan; and by the newest lights in her life, five great-grandchildren: Greta and Matt Slater, and Emma, Katie and Claire Bishop. She was predeceased by her husbands, Ralph Matteson and Fred Agee Jr.; her step-daughter, Brenda Agee; and her grandson, Eric Sagan. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army, 855 Asylum Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105 or to the First Church of Christ, Wethersfield. A memorial service will be celebrated Monday April 25th at 2 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield. There are no calling hours.
