
Clara S. Johnson-White, 88, of Bloomfield, died on October 12, 2013. She was born in Costa Rica to Joseph and Noemy Johnson, who were cocoa and banana farmers. She lived most of her life in New York City, where she was a proud alumna of Brooklyn College and NYU, becoming a Registered Nurse and then later earning a Master’s in Public Administration. After many years as an R.N. and nursing instructor, Mrs. Johnson-White worked as a nursing consultant for a non-profit and then as a nursing administrator for various hospitals and nursing homes in New York. She is survived by her daughter Renée, son-in-law Jeff; grandchildren Naomi and Javier; daughter-in-law Renee; her sister Avis; great-grand daughter Soraya, great-grand son Javier III and a large, extended family. Her son, Javier, predeceased her. A life well lived is defined by many things. For Mrs. Johnson-White, those included her love of jazz, classical and Latin music; her insistence that the Brooklyn Dodgers would eventually return; her extensive library and dedication to education for her family; a deep and abiding faith in the power of the individual to make the world better; and her unwavering love of her friends and family. Funeral services will be private. A home going celebration is planned for a later date.
