David Hirsh Enggas, 77, of Mansfield Center, passed away at home Saturday, July 24, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 9, 1944 in Kansas City, MO, to the late Albert and Nellie (O’Hara) Enggas. David received his BA and MA in Missouri and served his country as a Specialist 5 in the US Army. While attending Ohio State University in the doctoral program, he met the love of his life, Grace Falcetta, and were married in 1974. After 40 years of marriage, Grace passed away in 2014 and was deeply missed by David.
After he and Grace moved to Connecticut, David taught college Freshmen English, worked for CT DMV, and then the US Post Office in Hartford prior to retirement.
David is survived by his sisters and brothers in law, Angela Atwater and husband Marshall, of Tolland, Vincenzo Falcetta and wife Margaret, of West Hartford, and Barbara Falcetta Mills and Bob Mills, of Rhode Island; his nieces and nephews, Francesca Morrell of Rhode Island, Jason Falcetta and wife Paula, of Wallingford, Catherine Albert and husband Ryan, of California, Cindy Atwater of Ellington, and Matthew Atwater with his partner Maggie Downie, of Wethersfield; as well as his grandnieces and nephews, Samantha Morrell, Amelia and Reid Albert, and Joshua Atwater-Rec. In addition to his wife and parents, David was predeceased by his sisters Donna and Cindy.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 11am – 12pm at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield, with a Remembrance service at 12pm in the funeral home. Following the service, David will be laid to rest next to Grace in Rose Hill Memorial Park (Section 30), 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Enggas Scholarship, addressed to the ECSU Foundation, Attention Joe McGann, Eastern CT State University, 83 Windham St., Willimantic, CT 06226.
