Dolores A. MacDowell

Dolores “Dory” Ann (Arcari) MacDowell, 79, of Bloomfield and formerly Wethersfield, beloved wife for 23 years of Charles E. Saccamango, passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born in Hartford on August 19, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Alda (Rolando) Arcari and grew up in Wethersfield. Dory graduated from Wethersfield High School, class of 1964 and earned both her LPN and RN degrees from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. While in nursing school, she worked as an EMT in Collinsville. Dory’s career as an RN started at St. Francis in the Neurological Surgical ICU, where she worked for over 30 years. She then went on to work in Occupational Health for 18 years at Colt Industries and the Goodrich Corporation.

In addition to her devoted husband Charles, Dory will be forever missed by her sister, Elizabeth “Liz” Arcari Jordan and husband Jack Jordan, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Saccamango and her significant other, Larry Slomer of Poughquag, NY, as well as several cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her late husband, David MacDowell. Dory is also survived her dear stepdaughter, who she was very fond of, Kim Jobaggy and husband Ken of Newington.

Dory enjoyed her trips to Italy and Ireland. She was a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Red Sox and was a real lover of dogs. Dory was very proud of her 36 years as a friend of Bill W. A devout Catholic, she was a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Bloomfield.

Calling hours are Wednesday, March 18 from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 19 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Parish, 26 Wintonbury Avenue, Bloomfield. For anyone unable to attend the calling hours, the family will receive friends and relatives in the chapel at the church, prior to the Mass, from 10-10:45 a.m. Burial will follow the Mass in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield.
