Doris L. Gagnon, 99, formerly of Wethersfield, died peacefully on June 10, 2025. Born in Nashua, New Hampshire on August 31, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Laura (Duchesneau) Gagnon. She was predeceased by her sister, Jeanne Martino Noster; her brother, Joseph Robert Gagnon and her nephew, Michael Martino. Doris lived in the Greater Hartford area for most of her life and retired from the Travelers Insurance Company in 1984. Throughout her life, Doris provided unwavering love and support to her family and will be sorely missed by her nephews and nieces, Robert Martino and his wife Carolyn, of Glastonbury; Richard Martino, of Wethersfield; Lisa LaPoint and her husband Tom, of Berlin; and Lora Sawicki, of Wethersfield. Affectionately known as “AD”, Aunt Doris especially loved caring for and cuddling the babies born into the family. She provided countless hours of childcare to many of her grandnieces and grandnephews, and also celebrated the births of many great-grand nieces and nephews. Even though Doris faced many challenges during her lifetime, such as gradually losing her eyesight beginning in her teenage years, she always remained cheerful, loving and optimistic. One of her favorite expressions, which sums up her philosophy of life, was “I’m not Mae West but I do my best!” She was a wonderful role model for her family and will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at St. James Church of Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Burial will be private and there will be no calling hours. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
