

Dorothy Marie (Bublitz) Bonin, 86, of South Windsor, formerly of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Joseph Bonin, died at home in the loving arms of her family on Monday (March 30, 2009). Born on December 18, 1922, in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Minnie (Treall) Bublitz. Dorothy lived in Wethersfield for 35 years and Cape Cod for 22 years prior to moving to South Windsor several years ago. Dorothy was a devoted wife to Joseph, who predeceased her in 2008. She raised their first two children while Joseph fought in World War II. She gave everything to help her husband and children succeed and worked tirelessly at home. Dorothy was an extremely devoted mother to her six children, always caring for their needs as children and into their adult lives. Dorothy was busy from morning until night as a mother and wife. She was active in the Corpus Christi Women's Club and preformed in many of their musicals to raise funds for the church. She volunteered her service for 20 years while living on Cape Cod to the Coalition on Senior Citizens where she not only volunteered weekly but kept all the books for the Coalition on Seniors in North Eastham. She received numerous awards during her years of service for her tireless efforts on their behalf. Dorothy took up tennis with her husband at age 77. She bowled many years in leagues with her twin sister and continued that sport when she and Joe moved to Cape Cod. She enjoyed gardening and beamed with excitement everytime she dug up her prized potatoes. She knitted beautiful sweaters which are still cherished by her daughters. Dorothy is survived by her children, Don Bonin of Eastham, MA, Joan Fries of Marlborough, Jack Bonin and his wife Joan of Marlborough, Robert Bonin and his wife Mary Anne of Wethersfield, Tim Bonin and Pamela Singarella of Manchester, and Elizabeth ""Betsy"" Hence, with whom she shared a special bond that could not be broken, and her husband Phillip, a devoted son-in-law, of South Windsor. In addition to her beloved children, she leaves her adored grandchildren, Kevin and Mary Ellen Fries, Brian and Jeffrey Bonin, Dawn and Lisa Bonin and Carin and Cherilyn Bonin and her six cherished great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings: John Bublitz, Elizabeth Bublitz, Gertrude Baron, Bernice Bublitz and her twin sister Doris Kriedel. Dorothy's family extends their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers Judy, Doris, Marzenna and Tina. The funeral service will leave Friday, April 3, at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
