Dorothy "Dut" Giglio

Dorothy M. “Dut” (Tolisano) Giglio, 98, of Wolcott, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Born in Hartford on May 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James and Rose (Senatro) Tolisano. Dut grew up in the Hartford area and graduated from Weaver High School, class of 1946. She later lived in Waterbury prior to moving to Wolcott, where she resided for over 20 years. She worked in the office at Somma Tool Manufacturing Company for many years, where she made many lifelong friends. Dut was a former communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Waterbury for many years.

She was an artistic individual trained and awarded in calligraphy at a young age. She enjoyed using this talent to create beautiful invitations and place cards for many family members and friends over the years. Dut was a serious and tireless cook. Whatever she chose to do she did with critical attention to detail. Whether the many wonderful holiday feasts, entertaining friends or regular family meals. She took pride in her wardrobe, her furnishings, her cooking to a perfectionist degree but was still warm and funny and humble. She was a talented seamstress who made clothes for herself and her children in her earlier years and then continued with tailoring for many more years because the “proper fit” was just as important as the garment in her eyes. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved doting on her grandchildren and fulfilling their wishes for favorite meals and desserts. She was not much of a traveler but enjoyed annual trips to her sister’s house in Bradenton FL. Thankfully she also managed a wonderful trip to Italy while she was still able to walk. Always generous with her time, she never hesitated to help her aging friends with rides, preparing meals or help with last minute clothing alterations for visiting or “drop by” family and friends. Dut lived a life of distinction without the riches.

Dut was very sadly predeceased by her youngest child, Mark Giglio in 2023. Mark resided in NYC and Ghent, New York and is survived by his wife, Carleen Sheehan Giglio. Dut will be forever missed by her three surviving children, Thomas Giglio and wife Randi of Thomaston, Andrea Dvarskas and husband Richard of Wolcott and Lenore Thompson and husband Dennis of Marblehead, MA; five adored grandchildren, Evan Thompson of Boston, MA, Patrick Thompson of Brooklyn, NY, Lexie Dvarskas of Bellingham, MA, Angela Mastracchio and husband Ralph of Prospect and Laura Wysocki and husband Dave of Bristol; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her son and parents, she was predeceased in 2024 by her sister, Jean Ferrigno. The family would like to recognize the kindness shown to their mom by the staff at Autumn Lake in West Hartford.
