Edwin Matias Lebron

Edwin Ismael Matias Lebron, 61, of Hartford, beloved son of Ismael Matias Vargas and Lydia (Yiya) Lebron Ortiz both of Puerto Rico and deceased, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Hartford Hospital after losing his battle to AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Edwin was born in Puerto Rico on November 5, 1962.

Edwin is survived by his son, Ismael Matias of Massachusetts; his daughter, Rachel Matias of Hawaii; the mother of his children Lydia Cintron of Massachusetts; three grandchildren "Shanique, Raymond and Ely"; a great grandson "Elias"; three sisters, Lydia Matias of Humacao, Puerto Rico; Mirta E. Matias Lebron of Hartford, and Norma Nunez Matias of East Hartford, as well as nieces, nephews, other family members, extended family members and friends.

He was a hard working man, retired custodian after working for the Hartford Public Schools System for over 25 years.

Edwin was very proud of his heritage, he loved music, loved to dance salsa, loved to cook and as any typical Puerto Rican loved to eat... especially chicken hence his nickname of "Pollo" (spanish for chicken and also references good looking, which he was) he was full of life and not shy about it. Always with a smile on his face, quick to make a joke and was always concerned about those around him, always looking to connect with others. If you knew Edwin you also knew that he knew your family history within 10 minutes of meeting you, you also knew that he never forgot that history. He would ask when he saw you next time he would ask how's the family; your mom; your kids; your job and in a manner that you did not feel that he was prying, but rather just being Edwin.

He will be deeply missed by all those that knew him, and will forever live in their memories.

His wishes were for a celebration of his life and his family will honor that in a private event

Edwin Matias Lebron, 61, de Hartford, querido hijo de Ismael Matias Vargas y Lydia (Yiya) Lebron Ortiz ambos de Puerto Rico y fallecidos, falleció el martes 16 de julio 2024 en el Hartford Hospital luego de perder su batalla con AML (Leucemia Mieloide Aguda). Edwin nació en Puerto Rico el 5 de noviembre de 1962.

Le sobreviven su hijo Ismael Matias de Massachusetts, su hija Rachel Matias de Hawaii, la madre de sus hijos Lydia Cintron de Massachusetts, tres nietos "Shanique, Raymond y Ely"; un bisnieto "Elias"; tres hermanas Lydia Matias de Humacao, PR; Mirta E. Matias de Hartford y Norma Nuñez Matias de East Hartford; también sobrinas, sobrinos y otros miembros de la familia; miembros de familia extendidos y amistades.

Fue un hombre trabajador, retirado luego de haber trabajado por más de 25 años en el sistema escolar público de Hartford.

Edwin se sentía muy orgulloso de su herencia, amaba la música, amaba bailar salsa y como cualquier Puerto Riqueño amaba comer... especialmente pollo como indica un sobrenombre que llevaba "Pollo" (espanol para chicken y también refiriéndose a bien parecido, que él lo era) él estaba lleno de vida y sin timidez ninguna. Siempre con una sonrisa en su cara, dispuesto a hacer un chiste y siempre preocupándose por los que estaban a su alrededor, siempre buscando conectar con otros. Si conociste a Edwin sabes que él sabria tu historial familiar a los 10 minutos de conocerte, y también sabrías que ese historial nunca se le olvidaria. Al verte la proxima vez te preguntaría; cómo está la familia; tu mama; tus hijos; tu trabajo; de una manera que no sentirias que estaba averiguando, si no simplemente siendo Edwin.

Edwin le va hacer falta profundamente a todos los que lo conocieron, y por siempre vivirá en sus memorias.

Sus deseos eran que celebraran su vida y su familia así lo hará en un

evento privado.
