

Elizabeth Torres, 60, of Hartford, loving wife of the late Gilberto Mendez, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. Born in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico on June 21, 1965, she was the daughter of Luis Antonio Torres and Juanita Rivera. Elizabeth was the oldest of 11 children and her family was her greatest source of strength and inspiration. She dedicated her life to raising her sons and was filled with joy and pride when surrounded by them and her cherished grandchildren. She loved spending time with family at gatherings, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Her favorite music genre was free-style, and her favorite pastime was coloring, a reflection of her creative and playful spirit.
A loving mother and grandmother, Elizabeth will be deeply missed by her three sons, Jonathan Ortiz and his significant other, Jose Ortiz and wife Shanea, and Wilfredo Ortiz and his significant other, as well as her 10 grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She is also survived by her 9 siblings, Mirna, Ivan, Nelly, Wandy, Samandra, Maria, Grisel, Ive and Elude, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A Chapel Prayer Service will be held on Friday, November 7 at 10 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, to celebrate her life and legacy. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel, where they will gather to share stories, memories, and condolences.
