Ernest Stephen Pieranunzi
December 26, 1928 – November 18, 2018
Ernest S. Pieranunzi, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Apple Rehab, Rocky Hill, CT. Ernest, affectionately known to family and friends as Sonny and Perry, was born December 26, 1928 in Providence, RI and was one of six children of the late Oreste and Yolanda (Falchini) Pieranunzi. He lived most of his life in Rhode Island, and later moved to Delray Beach, Florida. Sonny served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in Amphibious Intelligence. He was honored to serve and spoke very often about being a Marine. In 1959, he co-founded Perry Bros., Inc. with his brother, Gene, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1994. Those who knew him, knew he was a fanatical golfer. He was a longtime member of Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln, RI and made many lifelong friends there. Sonny was a loyal Yankees fan and up to the end, still knew what was going on with his team. Perry will be forever missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis (Sollitto) Pieranunzi; his daughter, Cara (Pieranunzi) Whitaker and husband Bruce L. Whitaker, Jr. and his three beautiful granddaughters that were the light of his life, Christina Whitaker, Stephanie Whitaker and Samantha Whitaker. He is also survived by two sisters, Claire Nadeau of Greenville, RI, Dianne Piccoli and her husband David, of Jamestown, RI and a brother, Richard Pieranunzi and his wife Ornella, of Scottsdale, AZ, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn Tomasso and his brother, Gene Pieranunzi. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at Apple Rehab of Rocky Hill, especially his nurses and caregivers including, Charles, Althea, Barbara, Evelyn, Paula S., Paula C., Shirl, and Alfyha for their dedication, patience and care during his stay. We would also like to acknowledge the administrative staff, Miranda, Laura, Caroline and Jorge for always being on top of things and being available and supportive. We truly appreciate all your efforts. Calling hour will be Thursday (November 29) from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish at St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill.
