Filippo ""Philip"" Iannucci, 83, of Old Lyme and Wethersfield died December 4, 2013. He was born May 26, 1930 in Solopaca, Provincia di Benevento, Italy (on the feast of St. Filippo Neri) and was the third son of the late Serafina (Franco) and Luigi Iannucci. He emigrated to the United States in February 1958 joining his wife of 58 years, Maria (Riccardi) Iannucci on Winthrop Street in Hartford. Together they purchased and operated the Red and White Market on McKinley Street. In 1965 they moved to Wethersfield and Filippo joined the CT Laborers Local 230 where he remained until his retirement in 1992. His legacy, and true labor of love, was the ""villa"" he restored with his son, Lou, at Old Colony Beach in Old Lyme. Filippo was a master student of 'Mother Nature', observing and studying wildlife. A true naturalist, he believed in living, hunting and foraging. He enjoyed endless hours tending his gardens and was a member of the Wethersfield Garden Club. A collector of stamps and coins, Filippo loved parties and any opportunity to dance, Bocce or a quick partita of ""Scopa"". Most of all, he loved to sing. Filippo was a communicant of Corpus Christi and Sacred Heart Church, Wethersfield and Christ the King and summer chapel, in Old Lyme. Carrying on his family traditions are his wife Maria, daughter Serafina (Gina) and Tony Carbone, his son Luigi and Pamela Iannucci, his grandchildren; Monica, Elisa, Antonio, and Gianna Carbone, Philip and Andrew Iannucci and his nieces and nephews: Mario and Delia Iannucci, Maria and Enrico Golino, Carmela Orfitelli and Pio Iannucci, Phylly and Ricky Risley (all of Wethersfield), Angeline Reale of Old Lyme, Gerry and Mary Orfitelli of Southington and their families. He was the God-father of Filomena Riccardi and Joe Iannucci. Filippo is survived by his family in Solopaca, including siblings; Pasquale, Elena, Rolando and their families. He was predeceased by his brothers Guido and Leonardo. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Bride Brook in Niantic and especially Melody and Luis, for the respect and care with dignity they afforded Filippo. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at The D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, CT. Family and friends are asked to meet Saturday at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Hartford Avenue, Wethersfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial services will immediately follow at Village Cemetery. Contributions in Filippo's memory can be made to Bride Brook Health Center, 23 Liberty Way, Niantic, CT. 06357.
