Francesco Gagliardi, 77, of Hartford, passed away Wednesday, (July 20, 2011) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. His wife of 52 years, Isabella (Forte) Gagliardi, passed away one week ago, July 13, 2011. He was born April 10, 1934 in Saracena, province of Cosenza, Italy and was the son of the late Leone and Maria (Padula) Gagliardi, and immigrated to the United States on March 31, 1959. Francesco was a member of the Italian Army. He was employed by Whitney Chain for 25 years and later worked for Konover & Associates, Inc. for 12 years before retiring in 1997. He was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed growing his many varieties of fig trees. Francesco was a member of the St. Leone Society in Hartford. He is survived by his son, Vincent Gagliardi of Hartford; a daughter, Mary Schuberth and her husband, Arthur William of Wethersfield; his beloved grandson, Matthew Schuberth; a brother Vincenzo Gagliardi and his wife, Anna-Marie of Italy; nephews, Leone and Maurizio Gagliardi of Italy and Robert LaCava of Hartford; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Innocenza LaCava and her husband, Rocco of Hartford, Ida Gagliardi and husband, Giuseppe of Switzerland; an aunt, Lucia Boniface of Italy; and several cousins in Italy. He was predeceased by a niece, Madeline Mouta.
Funeral service will be Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton Street, Hartford.
