February 19, 1932 – January 7, 2021
Gabriele Sciarra, 88, beloved husband of the late Nina (Chiulli) Sciarra, of Wethersfield, passed away on January 7, 2021 at Hartford Hospital. Gabriele was a resident of Hartford and Wethersfield, CT since 1962. After immigrating to the United States at the age of 30 from his birthplace of Cugnoli, Pescara, Italy he settled with his wife and growing family in Hartford, Connecticut. He was son to the late Antonio and Leonilda Sciarra. Upon arriving to America he worked various construction and landscaping jobs and later owned his own business (Corner Tap Cafe) and apartment buildings in the southend of Hartford. Gabriele was fortunate to be able to visit his brothers and other family and friends by making frequent trips back to Italy. Gabriele’s greatest pride was his role as a father to his sons, and later in life, as a Nonno to his grandchildren, who enjoyed close relationships with him since they were born. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and strong devotion and love for his family. He loved being outdoors - working in his yard, growing tomatoes in his garden and summering with his family at the beach in Old Lyme, Connecticut. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends hunting, making wine and playing cards. Gabriele is survived and will be dearly missed by his three sons; Silvio Sciarra and his wife Denise, Anthony Sciarra, and Temo Sciarra and his wife Candace, his brother; Giuseppe Sciarra and his wife Lidia, his sister-in-law; Maria, his three grandchildren; Kevin, Gabriel and Mariena, as well as his nephews; Roberto, Antonio, Gianluca and Antonio. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation to the American Cancer Society (https://donate3.cancer.org) would be greatly appreciated. Family and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian burial on January 13, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield, CT, followed by burial in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield, was entrusted. For directions or online messages, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com.
