

Gaetano J. ""Guy"" D'Ambrosio, Jr., 83, son of the late Mary (Tozzi) and Gaetano D'Ambrosio passed peacefully away at Hartford Hospital on Saturday (July 7, 2012). Guy was born and raised in the South End of Hartford. He remained in the South End until the last year of his life. He graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1948 and was an U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Guy was wounded while in service and spent his time recuperating in Japan where he traveled the whole island. He was very proud of his military service. A carpenter by trade, he built homes with his father. He worked in his trade for the State of Connecticut for 20 years. Guy was an active member and former President of the Romulea Bisaccia Society. Upon his retirement Guy became an adopted family member of the owners and staff of the former Il Panino and current The Place to be Restaurant. Guy cherished the time he spent socializing with his friends and cohorts at the restaurants, ""so on and so forth and all that jazz"". He is survived by fourteen nieces, and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his four brothers, Joseph, Samuel, Robert, and Richard D'Ambrosio; and two sisters, Marie Pasternak and Rosanna Orsini.
The funeral will process Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial with full military honors will be in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday morning from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
