

George Robert Perodeau, 87, of Berlin passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2015. He was born September 24, 1927 in Hartford to the late Joseph and Emilie (Roby) Perodeau. He joined the Navy in 1944, at the age of 17, and served his country during WWII. After two years of active service he joined the Navy Reserves and went to work for his brother at his gas station. In 1950, the day after being honorably discharged from the Navy, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he actively served for four years during the Korean War as a Gunnery Sergeant. While in the Marine Corps, he married the love of his life, the late Margaret (Jones) Perodeau. Once honorably discharged, he went to work for Mercer & Dunbar. He then proceeded to work for Borden's Dairy for 14 years and retired from UPS in 1987 after 18 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local #536 and #671. After retirement he continued to show his love and support for both his country and the United States Marine Corps by joining the Marine Corps League Hardware City Detachment in New Britain. As an extremely active member, he sold roses, participated in parades, collected toys at Christmas for Toys for Tots and performed wake detail for his fellow service men and women. In 2004, he was honored to be named Marine of the Year. George was a Freemason, a member of the VFW Post# 2138 in Rocky Hill, and a member of the Franco American War Veterans. George is survived by his daughter, Lucille (Lucy) Pajor, whom he loved dearly, and his two grandchildren, Niki Pajor and Stosh Pajor, all of Berlin, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his five brothers; Albert, Roland, Erene, Antonio and Romeo, and his three sisters; Gabriel Bourre, Yvonne Demars and Alva Doucette.
The Funeral will be held on Friday (July 10) at 10 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by burial with full military honors at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday (July 9) from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
