Gustave A. 'Gus' Chellstorp, 66, of Wethersfield, husband of the late Kaaren (Hamstedt) Chellstorp, died Friday April 18th at UCONN Health Center, Farmington, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bloomfield, son of the late Gustaf A. and Catherine (Horan ) Chellstorp he lived in the area all of his life. Gus was a graduate of Wethersfield High School and studied business administration at the University of Hartford and the University of San Francisco. He was a operating engineer with Local IUOE 478. He was a partner along with his brother and brother-in-law in the construction firm of Chellstorp and Beherns from 1969 thru 1999. He served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco where he was a multi engine aircraft mechanic. He later graduated flight training school as a helicopter pilot, at Fort Wolter, TX. and Fort Rucker, AL. He also served with the Connecticut Army National Guard where he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. During his military career he qualified as an expert with a pistol, sharpshooter with a carbine and marksman with a rifle. He was a member of the Hartford South End Athletic Club. Gus enjoyed the water and boating and especially enjoyed spending time in Old Saybrook and at his home in Pompano Beach, FL. He is survived by two loving daughters, Carola DeMaio of Manchester, Christine and her husband Arnold DeSena of Westerville, OH. caring son, Gustave 'Sean' Chellstorp of Wethersfield, brother, Robert Chellstorp and his wife Mary of Windsor, grandchildren, Nicholas A. Schuberth, Victoria M. Taplin, James, Joseph , Jonathan and Jacob DeMaio, and Raechel and Jessica DeSena and a special friend, Krista Harrington and many extended family members and close friends. He was predeceased by a sister Carola Chellstorp Behrens and a sister-in-law, Jean Chellstorp. The funeral is Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the D?Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield. Burial with full military honors will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
