

Harold Walmsley, 88, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Wethersfield, beloved husband of the late Lorraine (Costello) Walmsley for 59 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 12, 2022. Harold was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who truly put family first and treated everyone with kindness and respect. He was born in Fall River, MA, son of the late Harold and Grace (Wilson) Walmsley. He graduated from Durfee High School in 1951 and received his BS degree in accounting from Providence College in 1955. In 1956 he married the love of his life, Lorraine, and together they raised their family, living in New York City, Bryan, OH and Seattle, WA before settling in Wethersfield, where they lived for more than 40 years prior to moving to Rocky Hill in 2010. Harold and Lorraine enjoyed spending summers at their Cape Cod house in Harwich, MA, where he played many rounds of golf and enjoyed long walks on the beach. Harold was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching and attending Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics games. He also was a huge fan of UConn women’s basketball and as a season ticket holder traveled to four Final Fours. In his younger days he coached his children’s Little League and youth basketball teams and regularly attended their high school and college games, and later avidly followed the games of his grandchildren.
Harold retired in 1993 after a long career with Northeast Utilities. He continued to remain active, applying his accounting skills as Treasurer of the Northeast Utilities Retiree Association and served as Treasurer of his HOA community in Rocky Hill. His other hobbies included playing bingo, dominos and cards with family and friends. He was a dedicated communicant of the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield.
Harold is survived by his four children: Catherine Walmsley of Florence, MA.; Thomas Walmsley of Wethersfield and his fiancée Lisa Giammichele; Susan (Walmsley) Hertel and her husband Christopher of Wethersfield; Brian Walmsley and his wife Suzanne (Jones) of Franklin, MA. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Hayley and Declan Walmsley of Franklin, MA; and Nicole Nehmer and her husband Scott of Wethersfield, sister-in-law Mary June Walmsley of Meredith, NH, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Lorraine, he was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Maryann dePreaux Walmsley and his brother Robert Walmsley.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday December 18 from 2-4 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday December 19, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church.
