Herma Aviles

Herma Aviles, 80, of Hartford, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great Grandmother passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, at Hartford Hospital with her loving family by her side. Herma was born on November 11, 1945, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and was the daughter of the late Vincent Vega and Rosaura Pagan. Herma grew up in Puerto Rico attending a vocational school, eventually making her home in Hartford. She worked at Aetna Life and Casualty for 26 years where she had the reputation of being a hard and dedicated worker. Herma truly had a green thumb; she loved her plants. She also enjoyed her trips to the casino. She was a strong woman who believed in her faith and most of all, she loved her family. Nothing gave her more joy than being with her loved ones playing Bingo and enjoying a delicious meal together while sharing old family stories and laughs.

Herma will be missed by her children Santos Aviles and his wife Delia of Hartford and Ana Aviles and her partner Willie of Hartford.

Herma will be missed by her Ex-husband Roberto Cruz, as they have loved each other for over 40 years. Herma was blessed to experience the joy of three generations of grandchildren and see them grow. Her grandchildren, James, Anita and her husband Frederick, Isabella, Shirley, Taina and Joel; great grandchildren, Richard and his fiancé Krystal, Thalia, Aubrey, Corey, Jeff, Layla, Sergio and Little Julio and great-great grandchildren;

Zayden, Alaiya, Amora, Little Julio and Koa.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 2pm - 4pm at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial for Herma will be celebrated on Monday, August 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 79 New Park Avenue, Hartford, followed immediately by burial services at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church on Monday, August 17th.
