Hortensia “Cindy” (Montes) Sanchez, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully at her home on August 17, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, on August 1, 1944, to the late Antonio Montes and Eleanor Torres.
Cindy dedicated more than 32 years of her life to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Chelsea Place in Hartford. Her compassion, strength, and dedication touched the lives of countless people throughout her years of service.
Those who knew Cindy will remember her for her strong personality, stubborn streak, and, above all, her enormous heart. She loved spending her time playing Solitaire, working on crossword puzzles, enjoying Bingo, visiting the casino, watching game shows, and indulging in horror movies. She brought her own special personality and warmth to everything she did and was a central part of the family she loved so dearly.
Cindy is survived by her children, Benjamin Sanchez, Carmen Sanchez, Mary Sol Rios and her husband, Todd, Nilsa Cruz, and Antonio and Eric Montes; her sisters, Ursula Ayala and her husband, Raul, and Maria Montes; 24 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved grand dog, Gucci.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Erving Sanchez and Angel L. Lopez.
Cindy leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love, family, and memories that will be cherished for generations to come. Though her absence will be deeply felt, her laughter, strength, stubborn spirit, and loving heart will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, CT 06109 on August 27, 2026 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
A family sharing of memories will take place at the chapel following the visitation from 10:00 am to 10:30 am.
A graveside service will then follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
