Ida Virginia (Fortunato) Valvo

July 27, 1923October 23, 2019

Ida V. (Fortunato) Valvo, 96, of Manchester, loving wife of the late Corrado Valvo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 with her family by her side. Born in Hartford on July 27, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Genaro and Maria (Zannella) Fortunato. Ida was a graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford. She was a longtime, faithful communicant of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Hartford and a member of their Rosary Society. Ma loved to read, travel with her children, camp, and was a big New York Yankee fan. She enjoyed watching the games with her children and granddaughter Jennifer. Nothing made her happier than being with them. She also loved to spend time with her granddaughters Gina and Christina, teaching them how to swing a bat when they were little. Ida devoted her life to raising her family and nothing made her happier than being with them. She will be forever missed by her five children, Joseph Valvo and John Valvo, both of Vernon, Corinne Manalo and husband John of Oklahoma City, OK, Jean Valvo of Vernon and Nancy Bullard and husband Kenneth of Bluffton, SC and her three adored granddaughters, Jennifer Ouellet, Christina McClellan and husband Luke and Gina Bullard. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. In addition she is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sharleen Valvo, along with Jerry Ouellet and his partner Richard. She was sadly predeceased by her beloved son, Thomas Valvo; four brothers, Charlie, Anthony, Joe and Freddy along with her four sisters, her twin sister Inez, Mary, Amelia and Olga. Thank you to all of the nurses, aides, recreational department, food staff and Hospice for your kindness and the great care they provided for our Mom at Touchpoints of Manchester. We would especially like to thank Sofia, her roommate of 7 years, for her friendship and always caring for our Mom, we are eternally grateful. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the many great friends Mom had at Touchpoint and know she loved all of you and appreciated your friendship. We were truly blessed to have the best, loving and kindest mother for the past 96 years. Her family always came first, and she was the best Mom anyone could ever ask for. She was a great cook and known for her Italian meatballs. Mom especially enjoyed all of the birthday celebrations and holiday parties with her family. We will always cherish all the wonderful memories of you Mom. Life will be a little less bright and happier, but we know you are reunited with Dad, Tom and at peace with the Lord. Mom, you will be truly missed and we always love you. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (October 31) at 10 a.m. at Maria Reina de la Paz (St. Lawrence O’Toole Church), 494 New Britain Avenue, Hartford. Burial will be private, there are no calling hours. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield has been entrusted with arrangements. I am so sorry for your loss to one and all. I didn’t know Ida but through her son John I felt like I did know about her he loved and treasured his Mom a lot. He always told me how he went over to visit her and when they had dinner together. She was his proud and joy. I feel saddened by his loss and all of your loss, I lost my parents a couple years ago myself. I know we are supposed to be happy for our loved ones but I just want you to know it takes time give yourself that time to grieve. Think of the happy memories and that will help you all. God Bless Ida. Amen.
