Italo E. DiPietro, 83, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 42 years of Carol Ann (Bukowski) DiPietro, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, January 20, 2020. Born in Floridia, province of Siracusa, Sicily on March 27, 1936, he was the son of the late Corrado and Rosina (Giarratana) DiPietro. Italo served proudly in the Italian Army prior to coming to the U.S. He retired as a regional service manager for Cope Service Corp. An avid soccer fan and player, Italo played for the Italian American Stars FC, was past Vice President of the Italo-American Soccer League of CT and was a certified referee. He was past Commissioner of the Wethersfield Housing Authority, a former member of Wethersfield UNICO and former President of the Italo-American Culture Club of Hartford. He also enjoyed playing golf, working in his garden and cooking. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family. He will be forever missed by his devoted wife Carol Ann; his son, Richard DiPietro of West Hartford; his daughters, Josephine Smith and husband Cliff of Southwick, MA and Laura Surowiec and husband David of West Hartford; his stepson, Christopher Rowlins and wife Erin of Colchester; his stepdaughter, Elizabeth Gadomski and husband John of Colchester and his 13 adored grandchildren. Italo is also survived by three brothers, Paolo, Elio and Aldo, all of Italy, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends, both in the U.S. and Italy. He was predeceased by his brother, Francesco DiPietro and his sister, Giuseppina DiPietro. Special thanks to DaVita Dialysis of Rocky Hill for their care and support. Tired and ready to be free of the struggle his body was putting him through, in typical Italo fashion, he was in charge to the very end.
