Jan ""John"" Gwozdz, 88, of Hartford, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on Tuesday, (June 14, 2011). Born in Rzezow, Poland, he was the son of the late Michael and Wiktoria (Rumak) Gwozdz. John lived in Hartford since 1960 when he moved from Poland to the United States with his family. He worked as a meat cutter for several different supermarkets. After his retirement, he spent most of his free time with his family, fishing and ""farming"". He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Weronika (Malinowski) Gwozdz; his daughter Theresa Gwozdz; and son and daughter-in-law John Jr. and Julie Gwozdz; and two grandchildren Matthew and Daniel, all of Wethersfield. John is predeceased by his sister Nellie Lazdauskas and his brother Joseph Gwozdz. Special thanks to the staff at Ellis Manor for their kind and compassionate care during John's stay.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 17th at 10 a.m. at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Family and friends may call from 8-9 a.m. prior to the mass at D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
