Jerry Anthony Kecko, 50, of Glastonbury, left us to be reunited with his parents on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. Jerry was born in East Hartford on December 5, 1967 and was the son of the late Jaroslaw and Maria (Wrobel) Kecko. He attended local schools, then graduated from United Technical School in Springfield, MA. As a child he was very active in St. Michaels Ukranian Catholic Church in Hartford where he rose to the position of head alter boy of which he was very proud.
Jerry was self-employed as an exceptional carpenter for many years, then worked as a power equipment mechanic employed at Butler Power Equipment in West Hartford. After retirement, Jerry still enjoyed working on various equipment in his fully stocked garage where there was always a friends’ machine waiting for Jerry to get it humming again.
Jerry enjoyed meticulously caring for his lawn and enjoyed boating for many years. He was happiest near the water or in his beloved garage where he knew all the neighborhood walkers and their dogs by name.
His passing will leave a huge void in the lives of his long-time love, Annette Benker of Glastonbury, his in-laws, Olga and Glenn Kolat of Putnam and Joyce and Lou Pillion of Middletown; his nephew Justin Pillion of Ivoryton, his nieces Kristin Kolat of West Hartford and Johanna Kolat of Putnam, his niece and godchild Kate Pillion of Middletown and his grand-niece Addison Pillion of Ivoryton. He will also be dearly missed by many other family members, friends and neighbors along with his loving cat Boots.
Calling hours for Jerry will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a service at 12:30 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Burial will be private. Memorial donations in Jerry’s name may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
