Joan Uricchio of Old Saybrook, formerly of Wethersfield and Manchester, departed this earth peacefully and in the presence of family after a short illness on Saturday, January 30, 2016. She was comforted by the prayer of the Blessed Mother and the knowledge that she would soon be reunited with loved ones in comfort and peace. A woman of deep faith, Joan was born to Adamo and Philomena Cusano on May 10, 1918 and grew up one of six in the South End of Hartford, attending St. Peter's School. She started her career at Royal Typewriter, later moving to Hartford Steam Boiler. She was an active parishioner at Corpus Christi in Wethersfield and a member of the Columbiettes. Joan was an avid reader, but more than anything, she loved her family, especially her great grandchildren. She enjoyed summers at the Connecticut Shoreline and later made fond memories and friends during twenty five winters at Breezy Hill Park in Pompano Beach, FL. Like the sunshine she loved so much, she brought light into the lives of everyone she came near. She nourished others with her wonderful Italian cooking and her warm smile. Always generous, she brought joy to so many around her even in her last days. The family would like to send a gracious thank you to the staff at Gladeview Health Care Center, including her nurse Khalid and many others. Joan will be dearly missed by her loving family, her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Frank Kelly of Centerbrook; her granddaughter, Alison Kelly of Centerbrook; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law Jennifer and Kevin Murrihy and three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Olivia, and Francis Murrihy of Wethersfield, her granddaughter, Deana Zizzamia of Sacramento, CA and grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Daniel and Beth Zizzamia and her great-grandson son Clark of Bozeman, MT; her brother Christopher Cusano; daughter-in-law, Linda Zizzamia; stepdaughter, Barbara Bonds and her husband Richard; granddaughter, Andrea Bonds and stepson-in-law Dennis Guay. She also leaves her godsons and nephews, Ricky Zizzamia and his wife Linda, William Sulots and his wife Kathy, and Ken DeLisa and his wife Christine and many other nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and family members. She will be embraced by the loving arms of those who have predeceased her: her son, Albert Zizzamia, Jr.; her grandson, Albert T. Zizzamia; her husband, Albert Zizzamia Sr. and her second husband, Daniel Uricchio; her parents and brothers, Angelo and Joseph Cusano and her sisters, Mrs. Mary Sulots and Mrs. Anne DeLisa and stepdaughter, Phyllis Guay. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you keep her memory and generous spirit alive through conducting acts of kindness for loved ones and strangers alike and deepening your connections with family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 4, at 10 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Seton Church, 280 Brook Street, Rocky Hill. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
