

John V. Sponzo, 60, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Wethersfield, loving husband of Rosemary (Zanghi) Sponzo, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, (April 10, 2007). John was born December 20, 1946 in Hartford and was the son of the late James and Adeline (Nicolini) Sponzo. He was a graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1964 and was a graduate of New England College in New Hampshire. He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by the Arbella Insurance Company for the past 10 years. Prior to that he was a vice president of the Middlesex Mutual Insurance Co. and later worked for the Eastland Claims Services. He was a member of the Royal Order of the Blue Goose and was past president of the New England Claims Executives Association. He was a long time communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Wethersfield and was on the Social Action Committee. John was an avid golfer and sports fan, especially the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He loved the outdoors and was an avid bird watcher. John was known to many as ""Handy Andy the Gadget Man"" for his ability to fix almost anything. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and many friends. Besides his loving wife, Rosemary, he is survived by two daughters, Christine Neff of Rocky Hill and Marcie Neff-Cooper and her husband, Nate of Alameda, CA, three sisters, Rosemarie Waterhouse and her husband, Jeffrey of Tolland, Teresa McDermott of Rocky Hill and Joanne Bouchard and her husband, John of Vernon, a brother, Joseph Sponzo of Webster, Massachusetts, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Robert Murphy of Kennebunkport, Maine as well as many nieces and nephews. Beside his parents he is predeceased by a brother-in-law, Thomas McDermott. Funeral Service will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Hartford Avenue, Wethersfield. The burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield with full military honors. Calling hours are Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
