

Jon F. Massaro, 76, of Hartford and North Eastham, MA, beloved husband and soulmate of Mary Ellen (Intagliata) Massaro, passed peacefully with his family at his side on February 12, 2016. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Peter and Adele (Sacerdote) Massaro, attended Naylor, Burr and Bulkeley High schools and graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Mathematics in 1962 and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics in 1965. He went on to teach math at the high school level in Quincy, MA, and at RHAM High School in Hebron, and Wethersfield High School. In 1970, he began his college teaching career at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, Connecticut as one of the charter faculty members upon the institution of the Community College system in Connecticut, where he served for many years as a Professor of Mathematics and Department Chair. He also served on the adjunct faculties at UCONN, University of Hartford, CCSU, and ECSU. He was everyone’s favorite math professor and had a unique ability to make difficult concepts easy to understand. He entertained his students with his keen wit and a great sense of humor. Jon had many interests and hobbies; he was an excellent carpenter and woodworker, and loved working on his summer home on Cape Cod. He was an avid fisherman and boater and enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He was an active communicant of St. Luke’s Church in Hartford. Most of all, he was a devoted patriarch to his loving family - he loved his sons and their wives as his own daughters, and adored his four grandsons. He leaves his beloved wife, Mary Ellen Massaro of Hartford, his son, Jon, his wife, Lucy, and his grandsons, Michael and Matthew Massaro of East Haddam. He leaves his son, Marc, his wife, Linda and his grandsons, Anthony and Nicolas Massaro, of Wethersfield. He also leaves his nieces and nephews and their families: Paulette Pappalardo of New Britain, Carla and Donald Unwin of Rocky Hill, Michael and Pam Miano of Duxbury, MA, Robert D. Massaro II, Peter L. Massaro, Jon R. Massaro and Mia Bunch of Los Angeles, CA, Adele M. Massaro and Suzanne Jefferson of San Juan Island, WA. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert D. Massaro of Los Angeles, CA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St., Hartford. Burial will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. There will be no calling hours, please proceed directly to church. In observance of Lent, flowers will not be permitted in church - in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St., Hartford, Connecticut 06114.
