Jose Guimaraes, 83, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 57 years of Isabel (DaSilva) Guimaraes, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Born in Ranhados, Portugal on February 8, 1941, he was the son of the late Abel Guimaraes, Sr. and Maria (Neto) Guimaraes. Jose came to the U.S. in 1966. He worked for 30 years at the Wiremold Company. Jose enjoyed tending to his garden and watching Benfica/Sporting games and the Portuguese TV station RTP. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
Jose will be forever missed by his devoted wife Isabel; his two sons, Paul Guimaraes of Wethersfield and Rui “Roy” Guimaraes and partner Renee Caruso of Plainville; his brother, Silvestre Guimaraes of Germany and many dear extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Abel Guimaraes, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 26 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane Street, Fatima Square, Hartford. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jose’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
